HQWS is proud to have designed and produced all four of DIFC’s acclaimed anniversary celebration events.

Marking DIFC’s first anniversary, the 2005 show told the remarkable story of Dubai through multiple technologies and injections of live kinetic painting. The piece was choreographed to a musical score performed by the 73-piece Czech National Symphony Orchestra, revealed on a 17m revolving platform. The evening was concluded with a performance by legendary tenor, Andrea Boccelli.

In 2006, the City of London Sinfonia opened the show with a ‘Big Bang’ orchestral explosion, synchronised to a volley of overhead pyrotechnic comets as the entire Gate building became the world’s largest HD projection screen, taking guests on an accelerated journey through time and space.

The 25-minute spectacular included a gravity defying ‘vertical catwalk’ performance as the audience was virtually transported through The Gate for a glimpse of the masterplans of the new financial district and iconic vision of His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum for the future of Dubai on the world stage.

The evening included a fusion of UAE cultural performers and string ensembles and headline performances from Jose Carreras and Lebanese Soprano Hiba Al Kawas, who performed a special operatic arrangement of one of His Highness Sheikh Mohammed Bin Rashid’s poems.

The show continued to amaze as a 350-strong choir was revealed in a massive kabuki drop and CGI sequences were synchronised with 4800 time-coded pyro effects and a revolutionary spinning flame system, custom designed for the show.

The glittering evening concluded with a series of memorable performances by headline artists Il Divo, Syrian soprano Talar Kekranjian and Amal Maher.

The 10th Anniversary, saw 2000 royal, VVIP and distinguished international guests gather under the iconic gate building.

The evening’s programme commenced with a projection mapped opening show, which used, for the first time in the UAE, six of the very latest D3 Pro media servers. The image was delivered using 20k Christie video projectors, which through the D3 servers, allowed mapping to both the front and inside edges of the building.

An elegant stage set was designed to blend with the iconic architecture, finished in high gloss piano black with brushed aluminium details. Schnick- schnack video elements were integrated into the stage backdrop and floor, also powered by the D3 servers, to perfectly synchronise stage effects with the monumental projections and lighting.

After the official speeches, local music artists – Balqees Fathi & Hazza performed a song, which was custom written and composed for the occasion. Guests then enjoyed a set by acclaimed musicians 2cellos culminating in a “Pixel Rain” finale as 6000 flashing LED lights were released from the roof of The Gate.
