43RD UAE NATIONAL DAY CELEBRATION
DEPARTMENT OF TOURISM & COMMERCE MARKETING
The official 2014 National Day Celebration show was held under the patronage of His Highness Sheikh Mohammed Bin Rashid Al Maktoum. The event took the form of a 30-minute stage show, followed by 15-minutes of projection mapping and fireworks on the Burj Al Arab. Whilst the latest performance technologies and artists were seen throughout the show, it was important to communicate the story of the Emirates through emotional content, narrative and messages in a creative and meaningful manner.
The show arena featured an 80m wide screen, a single truss arch which supported lighting, special effects and performers, and a plethora of moving set pieces and stage doors. All the small details that encapsulate Emirati culture were communicated through the script, video content, soundtrack and stage performance.
A cast of 400 performers including international artists, local school children and Emirati actors were carefully choreographed to a composed soundtrack. Costumes and props were designed and produced in consultation with Dubai Culture & Arts Authority, to ensure complete authenticity.
Highlights of the show included a scene from the signing of the Union at Union House with authentic costumes and props including a real 1971 Landrover. Adeeb Al Balooshi (a 10 year old Emirati Inventor) opened the final sequence representing innovation with a selfie moment of him and His Highness Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed Al Maktoum, Crown Prince of Dubai.
The finale incorporated laser robots, LED drummers, aerial drummers, special effects and the entire back wall opening to reveal the final projection and fireworks on the Burj Al Arab.
An audience of 2,600 including members of the Royal Family, foreign dignitaries, VIPs and public attended the event.
